Upper East Side Implant Dentist Near Manhattan, New York

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Dental implants are a great tooth replacement option. Dental implants are a modeled after natural tooth roots. Basically they are cylindrical shaped screws that are inserted into your jaw. After the bone of your jaw has fused with the metal of the screws, a dental cap or other tooth replacement is attached to the top portion of the screw. This means that the dental cap is rooted in your jaw just like a regular tooth is. Unlike dental bridges which have no support for themselves, but instead depend on the teeth around them for support, dental crowns that are supported with dental implants have their own support, which allows them to handle the same amount of pressure and pull as regular teeth can.

Everyone wants to have teeth that are completely aligned, giving that perfect smile. Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with straight teeth and have to resort to dental treatments to achieve a smile they’re happy with. The traditional way of straightening teeth was to use metal brackets and bands which were fixed and tightened over the teeth to push them in place.

Today a product gaining popularity to straighten teeth is Invisalign. Invisalign certified dentists in Manhattan, New York are increasingly being sought out for this new and innovative method of straightening teeth.

One of the primary reasons that Invisalign certified dentists in Manhattan, New York recommend invisalign is for aesthetic reasons. As opposed to traditional braces which look bulky and obvious, invisalign (as the name suggests) is transparent and very difficult to see in the mouth. Invisalign certified dentists in Manhattan, New York also suggest Invisalign to patients because it has been found to be less harmful to the gums and soft tissue in the mouth as opposed to metal braces. Invisalign certified dentists in Manhattan, New York have also found that using invisalign gives faster results of straightening teeth than metal braces which can take up to several years.

Another reason why invisalign certified dentists in Manhattan, NewYork recommend invisalign, especially for children is that invisalign can be removed from the mouth, especially when eating, brushing and flossing. This helps in better maintenance of the invisalign aligner and the teeth.

“It’s Always Easier and Cheaper in the Long Run to Just Do It Right In the First Place”

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Growing up, there was a grandfatherly fellow in our town that adopted all of us as kids as his own.  He would watch us, comment on how we’ve grown, ask us about our family, and often, share a bit of his wisdom.

He had a saying and a story for everything.  I mean everything.

If your hand itched he would say that meant money was coming your way. If you found a penny face up on the sidewalk, it was good luck.  If he saw a certain bird in the area, he told us that meant spring was on its way.

I always remember those sayings as I come across similar things in my life now and the events that promoted him to say it in the first place.

One time, there was a huge pothole in the street in the middle to town.  The road crew would come out and throw some dirt in it and a little asphalt and they would be gone.  After a few months, the hole was back and it was usually much bigger.

They would come back out with their trucks and shovels, throw some more dirt in the hole and lay a little more asphalt.  And once again, they were gone.

My wise mentor would watch each time the crew was out.  He would walk over to them as they worked and strike up a conversation about that pothole and offer his advice on the situation.

The road crew was there so often, they got to know my friend well.  And they would cringe as he walked up because they knew he was about to share his opinion with them if they wanted it or not.

He would ask them why they were there, even though it was obvious, and they would answer.  He would remind them it had only been a few months since they were there doing the same exact thing.  The supervisor would shrug and agree as the old gentlemen continued on.

“Now, don’t you think if you fixed it right, you could save yourself a lot of time and grief”, he said.

“Yeah, but the city wants us to save money so we can only do a patch”, the supervisor replied.

“Well seems to me, you have been here 4 times this year alone.  And you know you will have to be back here in a couple months again.  How can having 3 men waste their time doing the same thing over and over, be saving the city, and the taxpayers for that matter, any money?  Seems to be, It’s Always Easier and Cheaper in the Long Run to Just Do It Right In the First Place.”

I think about his words often.  As a dentist, when I see a patient suffering with a dental problem unnecessarily, it reminds me of the pothole.

Patients rely on me to give them my best treatment. They rely on me to fix it right the first time. And they want me to save them time, energy, as well as money in the long run.  That is my role as their dentist.

For patients who are missing teeth, that is why I recommend dental implants.  Not only do they replace the teeth, but they also stabilize the bite, provide a strong anchor of support for chewing, as well as give the patient back confidence and comfort that they won’t get with any other option.    Dental implants restore so much to a person’s quality of life; it is difficult to even put a figure on it.

Dental implants are the best option for tooth replacement.  It is a wonderful service that we enjoy providing for our VIPs (Very Important Patients!).  And just like my ‘adopted grandfather’, we always have room at our dental home for one more special person if you would like to join us here : http://implantdentistryuppereastsideofmanhattan.com

Dental Implants! Are They Function Like Real Teeth?

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Every one is interested in dental implants! But are they able to function like real teeth? Yes, dental implants function just as well, if not better, than natural teeth once they have fully healed. This is because dental implants are modeled after regular natural teeth roots — they are simply titanium versions of them. However, just like regular teeth roots, dental implants are inserted into the actual jaw bone of the patient and the jaw bone eventually fuses to the implant, securing it to the patient’s jaw just like a natural tooth root. Then a dental cap is attached to the top of the implant, which means that it is rooted in the mouth just like a regular tooth is. And, because a dental cap is made out of very strong material, it can withstand the same amounts of pressure and pull as a regular tooth can because of its design. So, if you are missing teeth, get dental implants! They really are able to function just like real teeth.

If money is a concern, try shopping around for a dental implant dentist who is willing to finance his or her work with you. This means that you will simply have to make a small down payment on the day of your surgery and then make affordable monthly payments after that until your entire balance is paid off.

Can I Look and Feel Younger with Dental Implants?

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Having missing teeth, decayed and rotting teeth, crooked teeth etc can be very detrimental to self esteem and confidence. Such people may not feel comfortable being amongst people and showing their teeth. Many middle aged women feel like their looks are fading when their teeth start showing signs of aging and wear and tear.  Fortunately with technological advancement, it is now possible to look and feel younger with dental implants.

Dental implants are basically titanium rods which are inserted into the jawbone and which act as artificial anchors for the ceramic or porcelain teeth replacements. This way, it is almost like getting brand new teeth when you get dental implants.

Dental implants can also be done if your teeth are getting loose with age and you are having difficulty in chewing and eating. Many times implants are an excellent replacement for dentures. Dental implants are also very useful when you are unhappy with the stains your teeth have developed over the years. If you have crooked teeth they can sometimes make your cheeks look sunken and make you look older. Implants can help you get straight teeth which give you a healthy and fuller look.

By getting dental implants one can look and feel younger because they look exactly like natural teeth, only whiter and brighter. They look healthy and real and knowing that you have the perfect smile makes you feel years younger.

Are Dental Implants a Solution for Missing Teeth?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Yes, dental implants are the best solution for missing teeth. Dental implants do not rest on the jawbone like dentures nor do they depend on the adjacent teeth for support. Dental implants are a long-term replacement for missing teeth. Two decades ago a person with missing teeth had no choice but to go in for dentures and bridges as that was the only alternative left to eat, smile and speak clearly. They were not the best solution for missing teeth as they would slip and fall and also make embarrassing sounds while speaking and eating. Besides dentures would affect the neighboring healthy teeth and cause bone loss too. Bridges on the other hand would cause periodontal disease and recurrent decay.

Today we have the option of undergoing dental implant. Dental implants are a solution for missing teeth because they never slip, they never decay, they do not make embarrassing sound and since they blend with the jawbone, bone loss never occurs. If taken proper care of could last for a life-time.

Dental implants improve the quality of life of the person. It does not deprive a person from eating his favorite food; it eliminates the frustration caused by ill-fitting dentures. The ability to speak clearly brings excitement to one’s life. The rediscovery of an active lifestyle makes the person more enthusiastic.
