Common Myths Associated with Implant Dentistry

Even though implant dentistry has become a very popular dentistry field, there are still quite a few common myths associated with implant dentistry that turn potential patients off from dental implant treatment. One of these common myths associated with implant dentistry is that once you have gotten dental implants, you will never get to eat your favorite sticky or crunchy foods again. On the contrary, many people who have been living with missing teeth for numerous years find it much easier to eat all of their favorite foods (crunchy and sticky ones too) with their implants than when they did not have them. This is because implants are modeled after regular teeth and even have an artificial tooth root that is implanted in the jaw, allowing the implant to handle a lot more pressure and pulling than dentures and other tooth replacement options.

Other dental implant myths include the one about every person being able to tell that the patient has artificial teeth. This is not the case at all. The artificial dental caps that are attached to the implant “root” are made to look exactly like the rest of the patient’s teeth. In fact, once the implants heal, the patient him or her self will have a difficult time remember which ones of her teeth are actual teeth and which are actually dental implants.
